Start Your Day With An Easy Smoothie

We try to make fruit smoothies three or four mornings a week so we can get some fruits and veggies in first thing. My naturopath stresses the importance of fruits and veggies not only for cancer prevention but overall energy and good health. They are fast and easy – which is key since most people have limited time for breakfast  or lunch on a busy schedule.

This morning I tried a new combo and it was so yummy that I wanted to share it with you. Packed with Vitamin C , Omega- 3 and Omega- 6 fatty acids.

  • 6 slices fresh pineapple
  • 6 frozen  strawberries
  • 1  banana
  • coconut milk and rice milk
  • 1 tsp flaxseed oil
  • (optional romaine lettuce or spinach if you want to green it up a little)

We make our smoothies dairy free and organic but if you prefer milk you can use that instead. If you feel like making it extra healthy you can always add some ground flax meal or a few scoops of green smoothie powder. I really like Vega Whole Food Smoothie Infusion these days. It’s packed with superfoods and doesn’t make it taste like seaweed – which I find some of the powders can do. No offence if you like the taste of seaweed in your smoothies! I just find it’s easier to get the kids to drink it if it tastes yummy.

  1. Avocados are perfect for sneaking in nutrients. Great for people who don’t particularly like avocado, as the other flavours will mask the taste.

    I peel bananas that are older, throw them in the freezer, and later then add them to my smoothies.

    Cacao nibs are a good way to add a chocolate taste and a little crunch.
